Understanding current theories and principles related to adult learning.
Transforming learning begins with an understanding of the current theories and principles related to adult learning. Without this understanding, educators often perpetuate an out-dated model of teaching, relying on strategies that reflect how they prefer to learn or how they were taught themselves.
I have extensive experience leading teacher education processes at postsecondary institutions as well as providing Train the Trainer programs to workplace settings in the profit, not-for-profit, private and public sectors. At Sheridan College I led the development of the Adult Education Program which caters to internal faculty and external trainers seeking certification. Additionally, I was co-creator of the Professional Development Institutes 1, 2 and 3 (PDi) at Sheridan, a comprehensive two year development process for all new faculty which focused on onboarding new faculty, providing coaching throughout their probationary years, and delivering teacher education. At Brock University I led the redevelopment of their Bachelor of Education in Adult Education degree program in both face to face and online platforms. Additionally, I developed faculty development materials and provided all orientation and training to facilitators teaching in the program. At the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), I successfully created and operationalized their Teacher Education Program (TEP101).
